Introduced in 1987, Italy’s .IT country-code top-level extension is really popular both within the country and in the English-speaking world. The reason is that the domain is a pronoun, which can be used for building inventive and catchy domain names – write.it, youcanmake.it and so on. This is a way to create an easy-to-remember domain name, so that it will be easier for your visitors to come back to your website or to share it with associates and friends. Because .IT domains are not offered directly by IT-NIC, the Registry that manages this TLD, such a domain can be acquired through a third-party service provider, such as ours. Because there are existing Second-Level Domains that include names of various regions and localities in Italy reserved for local third-level registrations, new names that consist of geographical areas of any sort are not permitted on any level to avoid any future confusion.
